Some photos of Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterflies I took the other day. A fairly common species in the eastern US, they were gathering on a butterfly bush around dusk. There were about 6-7 all together, mostly males. I did spot one female though.

I caught this guy as he was fluttering his wings. Makes me think of the butterfly effect.

I believe the butterfly in the background is a yellow female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, they have more blue and orange on the hindwing than the males, which is better seen from the back side. The females can be yellow, dark (almost all black), or intermediate (a mixture of the two).
